PARAMUS, N.J. – The Bergenstages theatre troupe will perform “Nora: A Doll’s House,” by Stef Smith, a reimagination of Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House,” in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre located at Bergen Community College’s main campus in Paramus (400 Paramus Road) in March and April, coinciding with Women’s History Month.

First performed in 1879, A Doll’s House challenged gender norms and ultimately outraged audiences. Despite this, Ibsen’s main character Nora Helmer remains one of the most iconic women of modern literature. Directed by Bergen theatre professor Leigh Jonaitis, Ed.D., Bergenstages will perform Stef Smith’s version, which sets the story in 1925, 1975 and 2025. In each time period, Nora carries a secret that threatens to upend her seemingly perfect existence.

Performances take place on Friday, March 28; Saturday, March 29; Thursday, April 3; Friday, April 4; and Saturday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. Matinee performances take place on Saturday, March 29 and Saturday, April 5 at 2 p.m. Audiences are invited to attend a special post-show audience talk-back immediately following the April 3 performance.
