Dr. Oscar Diaz

Dr. Oscar R. Diaz’s story is one of perseverance, purpose, and profound impact. An immigrant who began his academic journey learning English at Brookdale, Diaz has gone on to become a transformative leader in education.

Today, he serves as the Administrative Supervisor for Curriculum and Instruction at the Freehold Regional High School District, where he leads initiatives that expand access, strengthen curriculum, and support diverse learners across Monmouth County.

Holding a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Monmouth University, Diaz has dedicated his career to breaking down barriers in education, particularly for immigrant students and those pursuing STEM pathways. His work spans curriculum development, teacher training, and the creation of innovative programs including Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Career and Technical Education offerings.

Beyond his district leadership, Diaz continues to give back to Brookdale as a faculty member in the Alternate Route to Teaching Program, where he mentors aspiring educators and helps shape the future of teaching in New Jersey. His passion for education is both professional and personal rooted in his own journey and inspired by his commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed.

A Life of Care, Community, and Connection

For Linda McDonald, Brookdale was the beginning of a lifelong commitment to caring for others, both in healthcare and in the community.

A graduate of Brookdale’s Nursing program in 1980, McDonald began her career as a Registered Nurse at Riverview Medical Center, balancing the demands of her profession while raising four children. Her compassion and dedication extended beyond the hospital, serving as a school nurse in Little Silver and supporting the well-being of countless families.

Alongside her husband Bill, McDonald also helped shape Delicious Orchards in Colts Neck into a beloved Monmouth County destination. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and deep community ties, the market has become a gathering place for generations—thanks in part to McDonald’s warmth, work ethic, and commitment to service.

Her impact reaches even further through philanthropic efforts. Delicious Orchards has long partnered with organizations like The Barn for the Poorest of the Poor, helping to distribute thousands of pounds of food to those in need across New Jersey and New York. The business also supports local schools, food banks, and community initiatives reflecting McDonald’s lifelong belief in giving back.

Despite her many roles, McDonald remains deeply proud of her roots as a Brookdale nurse, a foundation that continues to guide her life’s work.

Honoring Impact That Starts at Brookdale

As Brookdale prepares to celebrate the Class of 2026, the recognition of Dr. Diaz and McDonald underscores the College’s enduring mission: to open doors, transform lives, and empower individuals to lead with purpose.

From classrooms to communities, their stories reflect the far-reaching impact of a Brookdale education and the extraordinary difference alumni can make when they carry that mission forward.

Their achievements serve not only as a testament to their own dedication, but as an inspiration to the next generation of graduates ready to shape the future.
