Communications major Alex Unger made his mark at Brookdale during the 2021–22 season as a member of the Brookdale Jersey Blues, and now, he’s headed to the pros, signing with the Chicago White Sox.

The standout outfielder delivered an exceptional year at the plate, batting .389 with 61 hits, 47 RBIs, and 51 runs scored in 51 games. In conference play, he raised the bar even higher, hitting .408 with a .643 slugging percentage. His performance earned him Second Team All-GSAC honors and Third Team All-Region XIX recognition, helping power a strong season for the Jersey Blues and launching his next chapter at the professional level.

Connetquot alumnus Alex Unger recently signed a contract with the Chicago White Sox. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound outfielder who bats right and throws right graduated from Connetquot High School in 2020 and had previously signed to play professionally with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League, but Unger’s contract was transferred to the White Sox.

In March, he was tuning up for his first season of pro ball at Chicago White Sox spring training in Phoenix, Ariz. During his days of varsity ball at Connetquot, Unger earned four varsity letters in baseball and two in basketball while captaining the baseball club his junior and senior seasons, and was a key asset to the Connetquot 2019 Suffolk County champions his junior year.

He was thrice named a Perfect Game Preseason All-American in 2018, ’19, and ’20, and twice was awarded Preseason All-Long Island, esteemed the merit of All-League in 2018 and 2019, won the Coaches Award in 2018, and made the Dean’s List as a scholar in all four years of high school.

The towering outfielder played collegiate baseball for four seasons, batting .286 in 10 games his freshman year at Albany. He transferred to Brookdale Community College in 2022, where he batted .389 in 51 games, slammed four homers, notched 47 RBIs, scored 51 runs, and stole 10 bases.

Unger then spent two seasons playing outfield for Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. In 2024, at the Division-1 level with the Sacred Heart Pioneers in the MAAC Conference, the Connetquot grad had two home runs, 37 RBIs, 14 doubles, five triples, 60 hits, scored 42 runs, swiped 17 bags with 17 stolen bases and tallied a .314 batting average in 53 games.

In his final season as a Pioneer, the Long Islander played 48 games, smacked 13 homers, 52 RBIs, notched two triples and 24 doubles, 69 hits, sped around the basepaths scoring 62 runs and stole 31 bases, and had a .359 batting average, .443 on base percentage, and a .708 slugging percentage.

Post NCAA baseball, the slugger played summer ball in the MLB Draft League with the West Virginia Black Bears, leading his club to the 2025 MLB Draft League Championship as Unger had four homers, 21 RBIs, 24 stolen bases, two triples, 13 doubles, 43 hits, 36 runs scored along with a .312 batting average, .412 OBP and slugged .522 in 37 games played.

Unger was assigned to the ACL (Arizona Complex League) White Sox, where the former Connetquot baseball star will spend the season with the rookie-level Chicago White Sox affiliate in minor league baseball.
